PRESIDENTIAL CEO FORUM TO CHAMPION PRIVATE SECTOR

Irene Birungi Mugisha, the Coordinator of the Presidential CEO Forum (PCF), highlights the increased collaboration among key policy players, industry leaders, and indigenous CEOs in advancing Uganda's National Development Agenda. This collaboration aims to bridge past gaps through strategic interventions at the decision-making level. Emphasizing the private sector's crucial role as Uganda's largest employer and GDP contributor, Birungi underscores the need for the sector to influence national policies, a stance supported by President Yoweri Museveni. The PCF facilitates bi-annual retreats for core policy formulation impacting the economy and focuses on creating a supportive regulatory environment. Key infrastructure projects and favorable business conditions are also being addressed by the government. However, there is a need for more comprehensive policies reflecting private sector stakeholder interests. The PCF's mission is to champion private sector involvement in economic activities by advocating for legislation and practices that remove obstacles to economic growth. Birungi notes that the PCF aims to grow Uganda's economy significantly by 2040 through four key sectors: Agro-industrialization, Tourism development, Mineral development, and Science, Technology, and Innovation. In conclusion, the PCF works closely with government entities to improve the business environment and enhance public-private sector relations. The organization advocates for a better regulatory environment that supports private sector growth, echoing President Museveni's calls for business-friendly policies.
