Presidential CEO forum (PCF) convenes a high-level consultative stakeholder meeting on deepening industrialisation and building an integrated e-mobility ecosystem.

PRESIDENTIAL CEO FORUM (PCF) CONVENES A HIGH-LEVEL CONSULTATIVE STAKEHOLDER MEETING ON DEEPENING INDUSTRIALISATION AND BUILDING AN INTEGRATED E-MOBILITY ECOSYSTEM.
Ahead of the 4th Bi-annual Private Sector CEO Retreat happening from the 2nd to 3rd August, 2023, the Presidential CEO Forum (PCF) hosted a high-level Consultative Meeting with Uganda’s leading Industrialists and E-Mobility ecosystem champions, under the theme: “Deepening Value Addition and Building a Sustainable integrated E-mobility Ecosystem.
The engagement sought to Identify and generate recommendations to mitigate bottlenecks affecting E-mobility value chain players, in order to amplify the role of E-mobility as a catalyst for industrialization and value addition and strengthening the linkages within the ecosystem.
Hon. Rukia Nakadama, 3rd Deputy Prime Minister while speaking on behalf of the Prime Minister, highlighted that the Presidential CEO Forum’s mandate is to provide a direct link between the private sector and government, and to lead the development of innovative knowledge-based solutions to support the Private Sector sustainable contribution to Uganda’s economic development.
She highlighted that, “The Government of Uganda launched the new National Industrial policy which spurs industrial development and economic transformation with emphasis on Agro-industries, Extractive Industries and knowledge-based Industries in order to provide a framework for Uganda’s industrialization, employment and wealth creation. E-mobility is a catalyst for the development of a number of industries, including; the extractives industry, iron and steel, and cotton/textile industry, among others, and therefore Government commits to creating an enabling business environment.”
Ms. Barbara Mulwana, PCF Chairman stressed the need for collaboration among industry players in crucial sectors in order to advance the country, strategically. She said, “SMEs are great contributors to the growth of the economy and these should be accorded all the support that’s possibly at hand. PCF is committed to ensuring the full resolution of the bottlenecks impeding the growth and expansion of Uganda’s Industry, so as to enable it contribute to the deepening of value addition in the E-mobility ecosystem. As the Presidential CEO Forum, in pursuit of our mandate, we seek to address key pressing issues in the world of business within different sectors, and next we shall look at Climate Change. The only way to move forward is by working together.”
Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero, Minister for Science Technology and Innovation at the Office of the President noted that as a country, in order to move forward, Uganda needs to prioritize Science, Technology and Innovation, Commercialization, as the best approach to bettering our economy. She reiterated that, “For effective deployment of the STI sector the following principles must be adhered to: Scientific process, Science and Technology journey, Value chain approach and appreciating the ecosystem.” Hon. Dr. Musenero tasked the Private Sector players to participate in rethinking Uganda’s approach to Industrialization if the country is to yield significant results.
Irene Birungi Mugisha, the PCF Coordinator emphasized that E-mobility cannot be a success story without championing industrialization. “Some of the factors that determine the success of the industry include: Appropriate technology, Human capital (skilled manpower), affordable financing, and level of industrialization among others.” Her remarks were further supported by Prof. Charles Kwesiga, Executive Director, Uganda Industrial Research Institute who highlighted that the level of industrialization defines a country’s level of development, the quality of life of its population, it’s GDP per capita, among others, and that Uganda should be alive to the realities of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
The meeting brought together senior government officials and Private Sectoreaders such as Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Treasury Ramathan Ggoobi, Patricia Ojangole Managing Director of Uganda Development Bank, Deo Kayemba Chairman of Uganda Manufacturers Association, and Captains of Industry from the Iron and Steel, as well as E-Mobility ecosystem. The participants proposed recommendations which will be presented to H.E. the President at the 4th Bi-annual CEO Retreat for consideration and guidance. The Presidential CEO Forum remains committed to fulfilling its mandate of supporting development work, harnessing and popularizing private sector involvement in existing local and international initiatives.
